What a privilege to be supported to design and deliver projects with and for the underrepresented minorities in Community Radio. The voices we don't hear enough of: Women, Youth, First Nations, Elders, and Disabled members of our community.

2015 - 2017
Community Access Coordinator
Connection to Community. This included recording interviews at events, festivals, markets, gigs, and fundraisers, and broadcasting the voices of our community to increase listenership and community involvement. It included the production of a weekly 8-minute segment ‘Live in The Shire’ which consisted of over 100 episodes.
2017 - 2018
Wonder Women
Promoting strong and inspiring women in our community by producing a series of episodes made available via a weekly 6-minute audio teaser with links to a full-length podcast accessible via SoundCloud.
This project included facilitated workshops to teach participants the skills of interviewing, presenting, writing for radio, editing on Audacity and uploading work to Soundcloud.
2017 - 2018
RadiOldies
'Don't ask Google, ask Grandma or Grandpa'.
With the obvious lack of respect for our Elderly community these days, this project highlights the incredible stories locked away in nursing homes and retirement villages.
Over the course of a year a series of podcasts for radio and for the families of the participants were produced.
2018 - 2019
Collaborations
This project included the mentorship of 28-year-old Leigh Roy to present a one-hour weekly radio show: Collaborations. The show ran for two years and highlighted Australian organisations working with at-risk youth to create hip hop tracks and music videos based on issues pertaining to these communities and offering youth an outlet in which to express themselves. Contained 100% Australian music.

2019 - 2020
Walkabout
An 18-month project accompanying not for profit organization Desert Pea Media to remote communities on Githabul, Yaegl, Weyabul and Goodjunburra country. The outcome was a series of one-hour podcasts from each community (6 podcasts in total) which tell the story behind the lyrics of the hip hop track, music video and short film created with DPM and of each respective community. Included training youth to use equipment and interview one another.

2020 - 2022
Youth in Action
Working in collaboration with Byron Youth Service (BYS) and Youth Activities Centre (YAC) along with executive producer Lealah Shostak to facilitate free monthly workshops for young people aged 12-24. Offering skills to create radio and podcasts. This resulted in an award nominated youth radio show which now broadcasts weekly on Bay FM called YAC Radio
2022
Youth in Action:
Redbank Plains Highschool
Collaboration with teacher Ines Louisa at Brisbane's Redbank Plains State Highschool and Byron Youth Services Lealah Shostak to offer mentorship to a group of culturally diverse students.
This 8-week online podcast workshop was taught as part of the school curriculum and culminated in a visit to the school to play the final production on the last day.
2022 - 2023
Sista Radio
Offering free training for women wanting to participate in a collaborative radio show.
Included the 2023 CBAA award nominated project – 20th Anniversary of the Byron Farmers Market – 1 hour special.
2022 - Ongoing
Young Legends
Mentorship: Monet Shortland
Monet was 14 years old when we first started working together. She joined me as assistant editor and producer of the 2024 CBAA Award Winning 3-part podcast: Young Legends.
Students from Main Arm Public School were interviewed immediately after the devastating 2022 floods in NNSW by YAC Radio Executive Producer Lealah Shostak.
Still only 16 years old Monet has gone on to be offered a grant funded role in a youth environmental organisation Ocean Voices and has hosted her own podcasts and radio shows on Bay FM.
2023 - 2024
W.O.W.
Wise Older Women
A six-episode series of podcasts containing prominent older women. These podcasts aim to raise the status of older women, the knowledge they hold and their vital ongoing contributions to society.
The women are aged between 55 and 85 and have exquisite life stories to share and learn from.
Stop, listen, and give them the respect they deserve.
2024
Masterclass
International Womens Day
A 3-hour Radio & Podcast Masterclass offering broad coverage of all aspects of content creation and presentation. The audio recorded in class and within the festival was made into a podcast and broadcast on Bay FM Byron.
2024 - 2025
CBF Grant Assessor
2024 -2025 Grant Round offers an opportunity to take a well-earned break from grant writing to move into the role of Grant Assessor for the CBF (Community Broadcast Foundation).
