In 2020 I took to the road on a wild and wonderful adventure that morphed from six-week road trip into an unplanned eight-month journey of a lifetime that took me to the very tip of FNQ, Bamaga and across to Thursday Island.
Creating radio shows from the road, I uploaded them to Bay FM in Byron from outback pubs and remote campgrounds, from rainforest hideouts to the back of my truck plugged into a power socket, basically anywhere I could find power and Wi-Fi in the same place., which wasn't easy!
Dusted in exquisite red earth and a familiar flavour of authenticity courtesy of the exquisite souls I met along the way, this series: The Belly Road Far North Queensland was born.
In this episode you'll meet Michael and Mooks two treasured souls I met along the way who invite us to celebrate an historic event which will see a total of 160,108 hectares of land returned to Eastern Kuku Yalanji ownership. Under the hand back arrangements, the Jabalbina Aboriginal Corporation will take ownership of the national parks which will be jointly managed with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.
